How to get rid of of eye bags and dark circles

Hi Rechele, I am very pleased to have you with me today.

Can you please tell our readers more about you and what you do ?

Salut Francine,

thank you for having me today!

I have worked in the Beauty Industry for the last 15+ years, and have both a Cosmetology and Master Aesthetician license.

My focus and passion is in Medical Aesthetics.

I help both women and men improve the quality of the skin through :

  • different treatments (targeted facials, chemical peels)

  • technologies (RF skin resurfacing, microneedling, laser hair removal, body contouring),

  • product recommandations.

Can you please tell us what causes eye bags and dark circles ?

Dark circles can be caused by many factors:

  • lack of sleep

  • thinning skin

  • reduced fatty tissue around the eyes

  • aging

  • smoking tobacco

  • alcohol consumption

  • dehydration

  • overexposure to sunlight

  • hyperpigmentation (when your body makes more melanin)

  • allergies

  • genetics (those with darker skin tones tend to be more susceptible due to changes in pigmentation)

  • poor circulation

  • fluid retention

Are there ways to get rid of them  ?

Yes!

Start with the following:

  • make sure you get enough sleep

  • sleep with your head slightly raised

  • keep yourself hydrated

  • reduce your salt intake and alcohol consumption

  • protect your skin from the sun

  • and if you smoke do your best to quit

When your eyelids are puffy you can also apply a cool compress (such as a wet washcloth) to your eyes with gentle pressure while sitting up.

There are also many skincare products and therapies that can help.

For dark circles and under-eye bags, use topical products with antioxidants, kojic acid, and/or azelaic acid.

Skincare and medical treatments include facials (which help improve circulation):

  • chemical peels

  • fillers (having hyaluronic gel injected under the lower eyelid)

  • a type of surgery called blepharoplasty.

What do you suggest as a routine for the eye area to prevent or at least reduce the eye bags / dark circles?

Always start your skincare routine in the morning by washing your face.

Next, apply an antioxidant serum over your entire face, including under your eyes.

Once the serum has been absorbed into your skin, apply a moisturizer/eye cream and then sunscreen.

At night, repeat your morning routine but eliminate the sunscreen.

What are you go to products for the eye area ? Any French brands that you like ? .

My go-to products are :

  • SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic (antioxidant serum)

  • SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex

It is an eye cream specifically targeted to fight undereye bags, dark circles, and wrinkles around the eyes).

Unfortunately, I am less familiar with which French brands are the best.

I recommend asking a skincare specialist at your local pharmacy for a good antioxidant serum and an eye cream with peptides.

You can find Skinceuticals at their store in Paris (13 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, 75004), or at some French pharmacies.

The key to healthy glowing skin is having a good at-home skincare routine using quality products.

Thanks a lot Rechele, a true pleasure to have you here. Can't wait to have you as my guest again.
