After the list of the 12 products that you should have in your makeup kit, let’s now see which tool you should have to apply your makeup products.

Most of the time, we believe that having the most expensive products is what we need to accomplish a natural, elegant and quick makeup.

As a professional Makeup Artist, I can tell you that it relies on the quality of your tools : your brushes.

Using a brush that is too big for small parts of your face will make you lose time having to clean the mess you might have done.

On the contrary using the right brush can take your makeup to the next level and make you gain time.

Here are some of the best tools to realize any beautiful makeup look :

  • powder brush

  • foundation brush

  • blush brush

  • concealer brush

  • lip brush

  • eye-shadow

This brush is used to apply powder all over your face to make set your foundation for example or keep your face from shining throughout the day.

There are several ways and brushes to apply foundation but if you want to stick to the most simple way, the flat brush is the one that will help the best.

This one is like a smaller version of the foundation brush.

It is smaller to reach smaller parts of the face like the under eye area.

Blush brush

This one is similar to the powder brush, it is just smaller so that it can focus on your cheeks and not put blush all over your face.

Most women apply their lipstick directly from the tube which is OK if you are light-handed and know how to swing the tube the right way.

For more precision, I recommend you use a lip brush.

Eyeshadow brushes (2)

Two types of eyeshadow brushes can be used :

How to take care of your brushes ?

Disinfect them after each use and wash them weekly

  • Brushes are to be taken care of regularly for hygienic reasons and also to keep them longer.

  • After using your brushes, disinfect them with a spray of 70° alcohol and let them dry.

  • Once a week, wash your brushes deeply with a blend of soft soap and water and go well between the hairs to make sure there is not product left.

  • Then let them dry flat on a tissue and store them back in your brushes pot or bag once they are totally dry.

Synthetic or natural hair bristles ?

Synthetic hairs for cream and liquids, natural hairs for powders

Synthetic hair bristles are better for creamy and liquid products like foundation or lipsticks for example.

Brushes made of natural hairs are the best to use powdery products like eyeshadows, blush etc.

With these 7 brushes you have the tools you need to do your everyday or occasion makeup.

You can have more if you want to but with these, you will have very good kit to start with.

See you in the next post.
